64 years ago, India did get free from the shackles of bondage of the British Empire but only to get bonded again in the shackles of vote bank politics, corruption, uncontrolled population, and division of the people on the basis of religions and caste."At the stroke of midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom."
We did gain the freedom to choose our government but lost the freedom to have a say in the way the country is being run.
We did gain our rights but lost the knowledge of importance of our duties towards the country.
We got our Independence by paying the cost of getting ourselves divided into 3 parts, and a forever hatred between the these 3 countries.
Our forefathers lay down their lives so that we could get a country that was free of the bondage of others, and all we did was throw that spirit away and become selfish.
We say that the countries that ruled us. looted us but do we have the right to say that? Haven't we done the same. Looted our own countrymen?
On this day we should ask ourselves... is this what our forefathers meant by the word "Independence"
To quote Kennedy:
We have got so used the state of the country that everything has become a part of life, the terrorism, the corruption, the incompetence of the government."Ask not what the country has done for you,
Ask what you have done for the country"
We all say that the government is bad.. but have WE made an effort to change the government? How many of us actually vote?
Take some time out, and do think, that its our country, our Motherland, and its WE who needs to do something for the country.
